METRO-FORD AJAX 3 – 2 PEACE ARCH UNITED METRO
It does not happen very frequently that an exhibition game is chosen as ‘Match of the Week’ but Ajax’ performance against the older Peace Arch United fully deserves that honour. Not only is the White Rock team older, but it is also competing in the Under 14 BC Select Division—the top level of competition in that age group. From the opening kick-off, the Ajax boys demonstrated their excellent passing game and remarkable skills. As often happens, however, it was Peace Arch that took the lead as they took advantage of some sloppy Ajax defending. Our lads fought back tenaciously and came close to tying up the game on several occasions before the halftime whistle. Unfortunately, however, the various scoring chances were squandered and the score remained 1-0 in Peace Arch’s favour at the break. In the second half, Ajax stepped up the pace in search of the equalizer and was rewarded when Trevor Garofano neatly converted a rebound into the Peace Arch net. The play originated from a great run by Julian Katz and an equally brilliant cross that found a diving Boris Si in the Peace Arch box. Si’s header was miraculously saved by the goalkeeper only to have Garofano slot home the equalizer. Soon thereafter, Julian Katz gave Ajax the lead as he raced in all alone, dribbled by the goalkeeper and, from a nearly impossible angle, left-footed the ball into the net. Adam Jones proceeded to score the winner as he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head after receiving a perfect pass from Taylor Stuart. Peace Arch made it close just before the final whistle but it must be stated that Ajax fully deserved the victory. Connor Kachor played very well in the Metro-Ford goal, while defender Mitch Fyffe and midfielders Anthony Bordignon and Daniel Stanese also performed admirably. WELL DONE LADS!!!!!!!!
